Precision farming and RestartLand opportunities

By 26 July 2022August 26th, 2022No Comments

These are many reasons why agriculture increasingly has a great impact on the environment and on people’s lives:

  1. the need and waste of a lot of water;
  2. the indiscriminate use of chemicals.
  3. cultivation techniques
  4. the exploitation of the workforce

In modern agriculture, 70% of the world’s fresh water is used in agriculture and production is expected to increase by 60% by 2030 (according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations).

Agriculture contributes 10% of the world’s gross domestic product (7,800 billion dollars).

But is it possible to increase agricultural production without harming the planet more?

Yes, the answer is technological innovation.

There are many technologies under discussion in recent years, such as Agriculture 4.0 or precision agriculture.

When we talk about precision farming, we refer to all the techniques and equipment such as drones, sensors and platforms capable of advising and guiding the farmer through the collection and interpretation of huge amounts of data.

The IoT sensors placed in the fields allow you to record in real time all data relating to temperature, atmospheric pressure, soil moisture, wind speed, exposure to sunlight or development of parasites, and then send this data to the relevant platform, where, once analyzed, it can inform farmers how to act and inform in time a case of emergency intervention.

The farmer can then check different types of information on his own smartphone, such as which day is the best day to sow, the convenience of irrigating immediately or waiting for the rain, imminent hail storms or when and how organize the harvest.

In order to identify the most important advantages that precision agriculture can provide, we can undoubtedly indicate the following as the main two:

  • better use of resources
  • increase productivity

RestartLand aims at the complete digitalization of agricultural activities starting from the Agriculture 4.0 tools.

In order to provide support to farms, wishing to access the funding, made available by the National Transition Plan 4.0, and use the innovative tools of Agriculture 4.0, RestartLand proposes the Standard Agriculture 4.0 solution.
